Prime Season

May – Oct

For the most part, the weather is just about perfect and the fishing is red hot. When the waters warm up we start to see more hookups and better fish. Late spring through summer is the best time to target yellowtail fun sized sheephead. We want to be honest… yellowtail are around, but we don’t see a lot of catches on kayaks like we do in La Jolla. Saltwater bass fishing is always a hit and tends to heat up when the temperature rises. Halibut, leopard shark, sheephead, sculpin, yellowtail and white sea bass are up for grabs if you can find them.

Off Season

Nov – Apr

Don’t let the name fool you… the off season simply means that there is less demand and less people on the water. We love off season fishing because we have the waters to ourselves. All saltwater bass are available, good time for halibut fishing, leopard sharks are fun to play with during the off-season as well. Rockfish are off limits for the first two months of the year.

Included with your package

Our package includes all of the necessary tackle. If you choose to, you can show up with nothing more than a few on the water essentials and we take of the rest. We will provide you with the following:

We fish Daiwa Lexa 300 and 400 series baitcasting reels paired with Phenix M1 Inshore casting rods for the majority of our fishing. We throw in some specialized spinning outfits for jigging and casting from time to time.

You will want to bring gear with at least 30 lb braid backing with a 3-4 ft 20-30 lb fluoro leader.

Meet and Departure Location

We operate our guided fishing trips out of Pure Watersports – Dana Point (formerly Dana Point Jet Ski). Our partnership allows us to fish from the latest fishing kayaks that Hobie has to offer. Parking is free there, if you get asked… tell them that you are there for a guided fishing trip with Fish Village.
